Optometric Vision Therapy is a customized program designed to retrain the visual system to function more efficiently. It’s not just about seeing clearly — it’s about how well your eyes work together to support reading, learning, attention, and daily tasks.

Vision therapy helps improve:

These visual abilities are essential for success in school, sports, and beyond — especially for children who may be struggling with vision-related learning problems.

Step 1: Comprehensive Eye Exam

If vision-related learning difficulties are suspected, the first step is a comprehensive eye exam with either of our doctors.

In addition to checking eyesight and eye health, this exam includes evaluation of:

  • Eye tracking and eye teaming

  • Focusing ability

  • Learning behaviors and challenges, discussed with the patient and parent/guardian

This exam ensures we rule out or identify any foundational visual concerns before moving forward.

Step 2: Visual Efficiency Exam

If concerns are found, the next step is a Visual Efficiency Exam — a more in-depth evaluation of how the brain and eyes work together.
This exam tests:

  • Eye-hand coordination

  • Body awareness and laterality

  • Letter/number directionality

  • Visual perception and processing

  • Handwriting and fine motor skills

The exam typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the patient’s age and abilities.

Step 3: Custom Vision Therapy Plan

If the results show that vision therapy would benefit your child (or you), we’ll create a personalized treatment plan. Most programs include 20 to 40 in-office sessions, supported by home-based therapy for lasting results.

Our goal is to improve the function of the visual system — giving patients the tools they need to read, learn, and perform with confidence.

Insurance & Billing

Falls Vision Therapy is operated as a separate business from Falls Family Eye Care to ensure clear and appropriate billing.

  • Your comprehensive eye exam will be billed through Falls Family Eye Care and submitted to your insurance.

  • The Visual Efficiency Exam and Vision Therapy sessions are billed directly to the patient.

We’ll provide detailed billing statements after each session. While patients are responsible for submitting claims to their insurance, our team is happy to assist with documentation and guidance to help you seek any available reimbursement.
